Partners in Quality

Watch this short video about Canada's valuable relationship with the United States in pork production.

Canadian weanlings provide you with choice

Manitoba’s major markets for hogs are Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. We are within a day’s drive of most finishers in the U.S. Midwest, making our pigs easily accessible. Over the years, American hog producers have used Manitoba as a stable, single-source supply of weanlings, supplementing the supply of young pigs coming from other U.S. producers to meet the strong demand from U.S. finishers.

Canadian pigs from Manitoba are healthy and of the highest quality

Manitoba producers use the best available genetics in the world, enabling us to supply the U.S. with healthy, high quality weanlings and feeder pigs at a competitive price. The cool climate and low herd density in Manitoba significantly reduces the development and spread of disease. The cool weather also improves lactation quality and quantity in nursing sows, which enhances litter health. Manitoba producers follow strict national biosecurity standards to prevent the spread of diseases.

Canadian pigs support U.S. sales back to Canada

Canada and the United States are currently the world’s largest trading partners. While Manitoba producers purchase feed, barn and farm equipment from the U.S., American producers look to Manitoba as a reliable and affordable supply of weanlings, feeder pigs and breeding stock. Canada is also a large market for value-added pork products – about 25% of the Canadian domestic market for pork is supplied by the U.S. This integrated trade partnership between Canada and the U.S. allows both countries to remain competitive internationally.e weanlings and feeder pigs. Canadian pigs help grow U.S. exports

Manitoba weanlings provide American finisher operations the opportunity to convert U.S. corn and soybeans into high value pork products. About 83% of Canadian hog exports to the U.S. are weanlings and feeder pigs.
