Position Summary:

The Pig Health Care Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration of the treatment plans for RWA nursery pigs within the Maple Leaf system and the delivery of training pertaining to such activities to employees. This position will report to Senior Manager, Animal Health and Welfare. Position is a barn focused position, spending a minimum of 90% of time in the barn. Hours of work are Monday to Friday; some weekend work may be required.

Key Duties & Accountabilities:
 Primary focus on RWA nursery treatment plans to ensure all pigs are treated properly and in a timely manner.
 Support on-farm staff when emergency health breaks occur, ensuring pigs receive the best care immediately
 Provide coaching to employees working in nursery departments on advanced pig care for RWA
 Provide support to contract producers on treatment plans and advanced pig care
 May participate in the Animal Welfare Investigation Process

Required Qualifications:
 Post-secondary education in the field of animal husbandry considered an asset
 2 years’ experience in swine production
 Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
 Strong organization and communication skills
 Ability to work as part of a high performing team as well as on own
 Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously
 Is proficient in the use of Microsoft programs
 Possess full, valid driving licence, company vehicle will be provided
 Willingness to travel within Manitoba and Saskatchewan, including periods of up to 4 consecutive nights away from home
 An ability to live and teach our Maple Leaf Leadership Values
