Transport Quality Assurance (TQA)

TQA is a program that helps swine transporters, producers and handlers understand how to handle, move and transport pigs and the potential impacts of those actions on pig well-being and/or pork quality. Anyone who handles or transports pigs, or sets protocols for handling pigs, is a potential influencer of animal well-being and pork quality.

First Aid

First Aid is a basic one-day course offering an overview of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the workplace. The course includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. The course content includes preparing to respond, the EMS system, “Check, Call, Care,” airway emergencies, breathing and circulation emergencies, First Aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest and wound care.

H2S

Hydrogen Sulphide Awareness discusses basic properties of H2S, to information about personal protective equipment as well as operating and rescue procedures. This course will explain in detail what you need to know to remain safe around H2S, emphasize key points.

Students will learn important properties such as flammability, toxicity, odour thresholds and vapour levels, protection against H2S using equipment such as respirators, rescue packs and gas monitors, and precautions to take to ensure your safety when entering an area which may contain H2S vapours.

Apprenticeship

The Pork Production Technician Program Online E-Learning initiative is a two year program. The course has three ten week blocks of technical training that follows the school year. Each week students are expected to spend approximately 3-4 hours of in home study and one session of 60-90 minutes for online engagement with the instructor and other students.

Courses include trade safety, communication, production record keeping, stockmanship, pig anatomy and physiology, breeding and gestation, farrowing, pig health care, nursery, grow/finish, biosecurity, barn systems, and maintenance.

Per student:
Employer receives $20,000 in tax credits over a 4 year period. Tax credit information can received by phoning Jeanette Wazny at 204-945-0762. Student cost is $50 for application and $400 for the course.
