Day 9
Date: May 30, 2009
Distance: 76.3 km
Time in Saddle: 4 hours 1 min
Maximum Speed: 37kmh
Average Speed: 19 kmh
Chase driver: No driver today
Riders: Ken and Al Friesen
Al Friesen, from Golden West Radio, joined me for the morning portion of the ride today. As Al is a "roady" we paralleled the trail on the highway most of the way into Altona.(I wasn't complaining, the trails are a bit tough on your backside.) Upon arriving I got the town tour. What a great place. They have a sculpture garden on the grounds of a big old house that has been purpose renovated to be an art gallery. Well worth the hour trip from Winnipeg if you feel like checking it out one day. (I took a picture.)
Lunch was at the station parking lot with a simocast and great pork on a bun that came from Manitoba Pork by way of Preferred Meats. The lunch was very well attended and after a bit of vehicle shuffling I was off on the trail to Emerson.
The Trans Canada Trail leaves Altona due south to Gretna and then straddles the border to Emerson. The trail was in great shape and the wind was more behind me than in front. The only issue I had was riding through a section of trail that was on fire. Not a really big fire, but on fire all the same. (I took a picture.)
That's all for now. Back on the trail tomorrow bright and early.
Thank you for your continuing support. Ken
