2017 Manitoba Pork Annual General Meeting
Manitoba Pork’s 2017 Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday, April 5 at The Fairmont Winnipeg. The meeting drew a large audience to hear presentations on what Manitoba Pork accomplished in 2016 and what we have planned for 2017, plus updates from the Canadian Pork Council and the Minnesota and Iowa pork associations.
Afternoon keynote presentations were: Pork Trade in the World of Trump, with Dr. Dermot Hayes, from the Department of Economics at Iowa State University; and Earning Public Trust: A Communications Strategy, with Brent Smith, Marketing Strategist at 6P Marketing, Winnipeg.
Elections were held, with Lyle Peters re-elected Director-at-Large by acclamation and Edward Stahl re-elected Director for North Star Producers District by acclamation, both for two-year terms. Replacing retiring Director Calvin Penner, Marg Rempel was elected Director-at-Large to complete the remaining year of his two-year term.
Chris Sumner, Morning Show Co-Host at CFAM Radio 950 was the master of ceremonies at the annual banquet. Pork Industry Awards were presented to Dr. Laurie Connor, University of Manitoba, and Dr. Megan Bergman, Manitoba’s Chief Veterinary Officer. A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a $50,000 donation to Siloam Mission’s Make Room campaign. The funds will be used to purchase a new walk-in cooler.
