Tools for Group Housing

Manitoba Pork is committed to providing the necessary tools, information and resources to help producers plan successful constructions of group-based sow housing systems. Click here to view the booklet.

The Centre de développement du porc du Québec inc. (CDPQ) has developed a comprehensive training manual for designing group housing systems and managing sows: Housing Sows in Groups – CDPQ Training Manual.

The following link provides a good resource created by Australian Pork Ltd. about different group housing systems: Group Housing Systems Case Studies.

The National Pork Board in the USA also maintains a library of resources related to group housing of sows: National Pork Board: Sow Housing.

The Ontario Pork web site contains videos on “floor feeding” systems: Making the Switch to Group Housing.

The University of Manitoba, in conjunction with Manitoba Pork and other collaborators, has developed a software program that allows producers to quickly generate designs and cost estimates for converting their existing sow barns to group housing. For a copy of the software, producers should contact Manitoba Pork at 204-237-7447.
