Canadian Pork Excellence: by producers, for producers
In keeping with its commitment to continuous improvement of on-farm programs, the Canadian Pork Council (CPC) is launching the Canadian Pork Excellence platform, based on revised versions of the Canadian Quality Assurance (CQA) and Animal Care Assessment (ACA) Programs.
The revised food safety and animal care programs are intended to:
- Better demonstrate how producers raise their animals to ensure food safety and animal wellbeing;
- Provide better program comprehension and easier completion on farm; and
- Create the basis for maintaining existing, and accessing new, markets.
The Canadian Pork Excellence platform will be implemented over a three-year period. The revised programs will be pilot tested this year on pork farms across Canada. In 2017, the platform will be implemented on farms through provincial pork organizations. In 2018, Canadian pork farms due for a full validation on the existing program cycle will join the Canadian Pork Excellence platform by completing the new on-farm validation.
