Humane Handling and Euthanasia of Swine
As Manitoba pork producers know, it is illegal and unethical for unfit animals – those that are sick, injured or would suffer unduly if not dealt with properly – to be transported to market. These animals require immediate attention, as required by law and animal welfare standards.
Manitoba Pork, working with Alberta Pork and Alberta Farm Animal Care (AFAC), has developed Humane Handling & Euthanasia of Swine: Standards for the care of unfit animals, a manual to help owners or handlers quickly assess animals and make responsible decisions about required care, along with an illustrated poster. These materials are available free of charge from Manitoba Pork for producers and industry partners, by calling 204-237-7447 or emailing email@example.com.
