Job Summary

The Farm Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of a hog production facility, coordinating farm workers, managing herd health and welfare, and ensuring efficient, biosecure, and profitable operations across breeding and farrowing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the activities of farm workers and general labourers engaged in feeding, breeding, and caring for Sows and Piglets
• Develop and implement daily, weekly schedules for barn staff
• Responsible for herd health and welfare, treatment, vaccination, and medication programs
• Oversee breeding and farrowing schedules, weaning, and movement of animals between production stages
• Ensure proper feeding programs and feed inventory management
• Maintain and enforce strict biosecurity protocols to prevent disease transmission
• Monitor barn environmental controls (ventilation, temperature, water systems) and coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs
• Maintain accurate production records
• Train new employees on animal welfare & handling, safety procedures, and farm equipment operation
• Ensure compliance with animal welfare codes of practice, provincial/federal regulations, and occupational health and safety standards
• Manage manure handling and environmental compliance requirements
• Assist with hiring, scheduling, and performance evaluation of farm staff
• Order supplies, equipment, and inputs; manage inventory and control operational costs
• Report to farm ownership/management on production metrics and operational issues

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary school; a diploma or degree in agriculture, animal science, or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Must have English communication skills
• Several years of experience working in swine/hog production in a lead or supervisory capacity
• Strong knowledge of hog breeding cycles, nutrition, and herd health management
• Familiarity with biosecurity protocols and animal welfare standards
• Ability to operate and maintain farm machinery and barn equipment
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including exposure to odours, noise, and variable temperatures
• Valid driver’s license required
• Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and on-call for emergencies

Working Conditions

• Primarily indoor barn environment with some outdoor duties
• Physically demanding work involving standing, lifting, and animal handling
• Exposure to dust, odours, and noise typical of livestock operations
• May require flexible hours including early starts, weekends, and emergency call-outs

Wages and Benefits

Hourly Wage $26.44
