The Canadian Western Swine Health Information Network (CWSHIN) is seeking a Manager, Veterinary Epidemiologist to lead its surveillance, analysis, and knowledge transfer activities. This role is ideal for a veterinarian with strong epidemiology expertise and a deep understanding of the Western Canadian swine industry.

About CWSHIN
CWSHIN is a not-for-profi t organization that supports Western Canadian swine producers, veterinarians, pork organizations, and governments by delivering coordinated surveillance and actionable intelligence on swine health. The network enhances early detection of emerging issues, supports disease freedom evidence for trade, and facilitates knowledge exchange across the sector.
Key Responsibilities
Surveillance & Epidemiologic Analysis
Conduct routine quarterly analysis of CWSHIN data repositories (Western Canadian Repository for Swine Survelliance (WeCress) and local data systems), including deeper investigation of emerging trends
Perform ad hoc epidemiologic analyses in response to stakeholder needs or emerging issues
Lead bi-annual surveillance analyses to validate and strengthen routine fi ndings
Develop and maintain disease freedom models for priority foreign animal diseases, including African swine fever (ASF) and Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD)
Explore, assess, and integrate new data sources to enhance surveillance capacity and data quality
Data Systems & Infrastructure
Maintain and oversee CWSHIN data systems, including
WeCress, CWSHIN’s proprietary data base
Maintain and run the local repository (test environment)
Maintain disease mapping tools, including lookup tables and classifi cation structures
Assign and standardize disease mapping for new and incoming data sources
Ensure data systems support surveillance objectives and evolving network needs
Project Management & Leadership
Provide strategic leadership and guide the ongoing development of CWSHIN
Organize and chair key meetings, including quarterly network calls and technical group meetings
Organize and participate in Board meetings with partner support
Develop work plans and budgets for Board approval
Prepare reports for funding partners
Lead special projects, including RFP (request for proposals) development and contractor oversight
Establish and maintain confi dentiality agreements with data contributors
Communication & Knowledge Transfer
Prepare and deliver reports, presentations, alerts, and publications
Maintain and update website content and resources
Collaborate with pork producer organizations for effective outreach
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
Build relationships with producers, veterinarians, labs, and government partners
Engage stakeholders through meetings and outreach
Collaborate with other animal health networks
Documentation & Program Integrity
Maintain documentation for surveillance methods, data processes, and IT systems
Ensure transparency and scientific rigour in all activities
What You Bring
Required
Postgraduate training in epidemiology (MSc or higher)
Quantitative and analytical skills
Experience with complex data systems and surveillance
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong command of written and verbal English
Ability to work independently, lead projects, provide strategic direction and manage priorities
Preferred
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent
Strong knowledge of the Western Canadian swine production and health
