Manitoba Pork is the representative organization for all pork producers in Manitoba, with a mission to foster the sustainability and prosperity of the hog sector for the good of pork producers and all Manitobans.
Reporting to the Director of Public Relations, Communications and Learnings, the successful applicant will have a deep understanding of social media and other digital marketing tools, including analytics, as well as a proven track record of developing and executing social media strategies, creating engaging content, optimizing pages and fostering community interaction. As a member of the Public Relations, Communications and Learnings team, you will also actively participate in relevant conversations and activities that promote pork and strengthen the public’s trust of Manitoba’s hog sector.
Location: Manitoba Pork office, Winnipeg, MB
Term: Annual contract, hourly employment
Hours: 25-30 hours per week with some weekend/evening work required
Work environment: Hybrid with some exceptions
Wages: $25-$30 per hour depending on experience, plus 4% vacation pay
Preferred area of study: Diploma in Creative Communications, Diploma in Public Relations & Strategic Communication or equivalent
Tasks and Opportunities:
- In collaboration with the PR team, successfully handle and grow Manitoba Pork’s social media accounts, develop and execute digital marketing strategies, curate engaging content that aligns with the organization’s brand, monitor comments, interact with the social media community, develop campaigns, editorial calendars and optimal posting schedules, monitor analytics, suggest new ways to interact with key audiences, seek and develop community partnerships, and monitor, assess and execute on key performance indicators.
- Manage the Squeal on Pigs social media accounts – similar duties as above.
- Assist with the development of human-interest farm stories and ensure our efforts have a measurable and positive impact on public trust.
- Measure web traffic and monitor SEO, run analytics on a monthly basis, interpret data and report back to the PR team.
- Organize and maintain Manitoba Pork’s image library, and capture/categorize photos.
- Assist with Manitoba Pork’s participation at various community events, including being an informed presence at agriculture education events.
- Assist with the Pork on a Bun program, including operating and towing the mobile barbecue cart, maintaining the commissary and carts, picking up supplies, etc.
- Assist with coordinating and delivering Make it Pork! meal kits, including assembly.
- Assist with fulfilling sponsorship requests.
- Assist with pork promotion activities, including outreach and engagement with chefs, restauranteurs and retailers.
- Assist with delivering resources to key industry/community partners.
- Assist with communications needs as required, including reviewing, editing and writing copy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Some weekend and evening work required. Some driving, including towing a trailer, is required.
Essential Skills and Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including proper telephone, email and social media etiquette, copy editing).
- Strong knowledge of SEO, keyword research and Google Analytics.
- Computer proficiency (MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams).
- A comprehensive understanding of various social media platforms and how to optimize content for maximum engagement.
- Familiarity with online marketing strategies.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate actionable insights.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new tools, platforms, and methodologies in a fast-evolving digital landscape.
- Ability to deliver creative content (text, image, video).
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and work resourcefully and independently.
- Ability to plan a project and follow through.
- Positive attitude, detail oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability.
- Collaborate with other departments and work well with others.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge of agriculture and/or livestock production is an asset.

- Reliable vehicle
- Willingness to obtain Food Handler’s certificate
