Manitoba Pork's Media Centre
Manitoba Pork represents 624 hog farms across Manitoba and acts as an advocate, educator, and resource for the hog sector and the general public. Our mission is to foster sustainability and prosperity throughout the sector for the good of all Manitobans.
We support the hog sector and its members, who spend their lives producing safe, nutritious food, while caring for their livestock, protecting the environment, and the province’s natural resources, promoting public health and contributing to healthy and vibrant Manitoba communities.
We invite you to explore our media centre, where you will find facts, figures, media releases, video and images for your use.

Animal Care
Manitoba hog farmers care for their animals year-round. Everyone in the hog sector, from farmers to transport drivers to processors, follows national standards for the care and handling of pigs. We support the strict penalties against animal abusers that are included in the Criminal Code of Canada and in Manitoba’s Animal Care Act. In addition, the national Canadian Pork Excellence program demonstrates sector compliance requirements for food safety, animal care, and traceability, helping ensure safe and affordable food for Canadians.
Economy
Over 22,000 Manitobans depend on Manitoba’s hog sector for their livelihood. Every year, the sector contributes over $2.3 billion, helping to fund areas including education, health care and road maintenance.
Environment
Manitoba’s hog sector continues to reduce its environmental impact by following the strictest guidelines in North America. Our hog farmers are proud stewards of the land, water and air entrusted to them, focused on best practices, and regularly investing in research and adopting new and emerging technology and nutrient management methods.
Food
Pork is a healthy, affordable powerhouse of nutrition that packs a significant amount of protein into each serving. Many pork dishes are easy to prepare and provide the vitamins and nutrients. All retailed Canadian pork is antibiotic-free.
People & Culture
Manitoba’s hog sector is making a positive contribution to society and to the lives of all Manitobans. In rural communities, the sector is providing access to good jobs and is one of the few sources of new job creation in rural areas. There are few social contributions that have a more positive impact on people’s lives than access to a good job.
Pork Provides
While the objective of the hog sector is to provide a high-quality, affordable protein to the world, at the same time we are passionate about supporting the well-being of the communities where we live and work. In 2019, Manitoba Pork was honoured to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Philanthropy Award (Organization Under 100), for the contributions the hog sector makes to our communities.
