Workplace Health & Safety
Manitoba Pork is committed to helping all producers to run safety and healthy workplaces. Workplace injuries affect more than just the worker – it affects their family, their friends and the farm that they work on. It also impacts beyond the workplace to the community within which they live. Therefore, having a safe work environment is a critical aspect to all hog farm operations.
In conjunction with the Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP), Manitoba Pork is working closely to raise awareness of the need for safe work environments. KAP has received a funding grant and support from Safe Work Manitoba to boost the safety services it provides to farmers and commodity groups and has formed a new safety council to guide the delivery of them (including a representative from Manitoba Pork). The free services offered will include:
- more on-site safety advisors (in addition to the current one) who will work directly with farm businesses to identify and address farm risks
- safety awareness training for farm workers and supervisors, as well as hazard-specific training
- commodity-specific workshops
To assist in ensuring safe workplaces and to ensure that workplaces are in compliance with The Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act, a free and confidential on-farm consultation can be arranged with KAP’s safety consultant, Morag Marjerison, at This email address is being protected from spambots.
